A concise summary of the MD Educational Program (the Curriculum)

The MD Educational Program's overall goals are to provide medical professionals with a range of competencies that align with both the Tuning Project's competencies and the World Federation of Medical Education's (WFME) criteria.

The MD Program Educational Program consists of 360 credits and is offered for six years. According to the European Credit System, thirty credits are awarded for each of the nineteen-week semesters in a school year. A single credit entails twenty-five working hours, of which roughly half are dedicated to student contact and the other half to independent study.

The MD Program is built on the harmonious fusion of basic research and clinical sciences and is extensively integrated. The fundamental, pre-clinical, and clinical disciplines of spiral, vertical, and horizontal principles enable the integration. The program is divided into two primary stages: the Initial Medical Stage and the Clinical Medical Stage. It also contains cycles, blocks, and stages. Each new block builds on the one before it, posing increasingly challenging learning goals.

During the first semester, major biomedical sciences are combined to form the beginning medical stage.

First Medical Phase

The First Stage lasts for one semester. At this point, the Biomedical Sciences Core Principles are essential. This phase's goal is to introduce the essential concepts and terminology that apply to all of the basic sciences, giving students the foundational information they'll need to study the human organ systems over the course of the next four semesters.

Professional Latin and the fundamental clinical sciences (health promotion and scientific research) are coordinated and integrated to accomplish both horizontal and vertical integration. Students will learn basics of health promotion, the methodology of search, critical analysis, literature review, research planning, data collection, statistical analysis and publishing of the results, effectively using the Latin terms in a professional context.
